Giro d'Italia 2016 Dutch stages

I don't think, unfortunately, that I am going to be there in May but it does not stop me from writing about the stages held in the Netherlands.

Because the peloton (riders will fly to Italy so they are least affected by the remote opening stages) must make a gib transfer from the Northern Holland to Italy, the schedule is not normal. It takes a whole day for all those team cars, trucks and busses, some media people (most of them also fly, I guess) and others have to drive. They will drive through Belgium, Luxembourg (tank and buy cartons of cigarettes here), France or Germany and Switzerland to get on the other side of Alps.

To accommodate this a day long transfer, the first stage is on Friday in Apeldoorn as opposed to normal Saturday.

The stage structure is also not so normal. There is a short time trial on Friday. The second stage takes place in a town not far from Apeldoorn from Arnhem to Nijmegen. Then the third stage goes from Nijmegen to Arnhem. The courses of the last stages are different.

Anomaly does not stop there. Two stages are about 190 km long. Aren't they too short considering the fact that they are riding on a flat area of the country known for its flat profile. What does it mean (the fact that those two stages are seemingly too short)?

It looks like whoever wins the short time trail may keep the leader's jersey for some days unless breakaway riders successfully make it to the finish line.

Amstel Gold Race 2015

I am leaving for Maastricht in a matter of 6 or 7 hours from now. It will be a bit past midnight. I will be arriving at Cauberg sometime in the early hours of the morning.

I will be back in a week. I am having a week off.

EnecoTour 2014 the last stage (Riemst - Sittartd)

I am leaving for Riemst (Belgium) in the morning. At this moment that I am writing this, it is still Saturday, August 16 but soon it is Sunday, August 17.

The last stage is a simple course. It is just around Maastricht, Holland. Riemst is just several kilometers away from Maastricht but it is in Belgium.

The plan is simple; watch the start in Riemst - going to the fourth climb of the day, Loorberg - going to the feed zone - finally driving to the finish in Sittard.

It is about 200 km from Luxembourg to Riemst. I will set the alarm at 6 o'clock and then start driving.

Fabian Cancellara did not start today's stage. He is going to participate in la Vuela a Espa&ntilda;a. He is using EnecoTour as a preparation for the Vuelta and also using the Vuelta as a preparation for the World Championship. He does not have the intention to finish either of the stage races. The team also support his ambitions to be a World Champion.

I expect to see the remaining riders tomorrow.

AGR (Amstel Gold Race) 2014 Watch Plan Part I

It is time to do this, the planing for AGR 2014. The organizer has posted the map and the time table at least partly. There is a Dutch version of the time table but there is none in English page.

I downloaded the map and the time table from the official site to check them out. They were updated to 2014's edition. I found a small problem, though. There is no mention of the feed zones (usually twice). I assume (assuming makes an ass out of 'you' and 'me', I know) that they are the same.

This year I may 'try' to change the way I watched the race for the last 4 or 5 years. For the last several years I did the same, first greeting the riders at the start (Maasstricht), driving to Bergseweg (No. 4 climb, well if you call that slope a 'climb'), driving further to the first ravitaillement (feed zone) and then driving back to the finish area (Cauberg).

This year, however, I intend to try other climbs or places. Will this work? I am not sure.

This entry was initially written on Tuesday, March 25. I thought I could finish writing it before the date changed. I could not. I wrote something but the Huawei 3G modem cut me off the net and the writing was lost. I did not feel good about it so I went to bed.

This 3G modem is far far stable with Lubuntu (Linux) but very fragile with Mac OS X. Huawei's driver software is to blame or OS X Mavericks is to blame, I don't know.

So today, March 26, I went to the local Orange Luxembourg shop to ask about the 4G modem. I have been a customer with this mobile telecommunication company for about thee years by now (?). At that time I first had the contract, 3G modem was the latest gadget. Now 4G is offered everywhere. I needed a better faster 4G connection.

My contract is "Internet Everywhere" with unlimited (actually it is limited) data option. This same IE unlimited cost 25 euros per month as my old contract costs me. Can I keep the same contract and get the high speed connection just by buying the 4G modem (Huawei Hotspot 4G modem)? That was my connection.

The answer was simple. Yes, I can. All I have to do is to buy the device and they give me the new SIM card. The SIM info is transferred to my contract info. That's it.

I haven't tried the device yet. I will do so later today when I come home. I hope it gives me the value I paid for. 129 euros.

Amstel Gold Race 2013 Part III

I wanted to recharge my prepaid SIM credit. Today I went to pay the credit. I did and I tried to recharge it.

It turned out the SIM is invalid. It means I neglected it too long. I have two options.
1) Go to (or call) my carrier's counter and ask them to resurrect the number if possible
2) Go buy a new prepaid SIM card

Anyway, I had time to check the parcours of AGR and plotted the important places on my Garmin MapSource and transferred the waypoints to my N&;uuml;vi. Now I can leave.

I am leaving for Cauberg around 12:00 midnight of Sunday, April 14. I will be at Cauberg around 4 in the morning.

I did not, however, have the time to do the same for Liège-Bastogne-Liège. I will do it on Sunday evening or Monday evening.

I have only one concern for the moment. Cauberg is already closed by the time I arrive there, I am afraid. I have carry a heavy bucket of paint and walk a distance. It is a minor annoyance.
